LAS VEGAS, Nevada (Dec. 30, 2013) – A 15-year-old boy was killed and his passenger injured after a hit-and-run driver struck the moped the two were riding on Thursday night on North Ringe Lane at East Meikle Lane, according to a press release by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
About 8:22 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, Las Vegas police and paramedics responded to the hit-and-run accident and found the young man suffering from major injuries and the passenger with minor injuries.
Paramedics transported the teenager by ambulance to the University Medical Center’s emergency room where he was treated, but he died shortly after his arrival. His passenger Robert Otterness, 20, of Las Vegas, suffered minor injuries in the accident.
Las Vegas Police are investigating the collision in an effort to find the hit-and-run driver and hold them accountable for their actions, said Attorney West Seegmiller. Anyone who witnessed the accident or has information about the hit-and-run driver should contact Las Vegas Metro Police Detective J. Bangle at 702-828-3538 to assist in the investigation.
“There is an accident report pending for this fatal crash and it will contain an analysis of the collision factors based on evidence collected by police,” Seegmiller said. “The report is typically available within 30 days. The report is very helpful not only to law enforcement, but also to family and loved ones. We extend our sympathy to the family of this young man as they try to piece together what happened and come to terms with such a tremendous loss.”
